Community Engagement

The primary focus of the Community Engagement and Education Specialist is to co-administer the community engagement and education aspects of Bike Utah’s Community Assistance Program (CAP). This program seeks to support Utah communities by facilitating the five elements of successful cycling communities: complete cycling infrastructure, access to gear and maintenance, education and information, thriving cycling community, and inclusive planning and policy. Bike Utah’s community engagement and education efforts focus on providing cycling safety education and resources to schools, drivers, and community groups within the state. At schools, this can look like teaching bike safety to elementary school students through classes and assemblies, supporting bike buses, engaging the school community in conversations on safe routes to school, developing curricula, and more. In communities, this can look like engaging underserved communities to provide bike repair days, teaching bike safety, developing new projects, and more. A good candidate does not need to be a bike expert; Bike Utah will train on cycling safety education and simple bike mechanical skills.

Bikes Together is excited to meet our next Service Manager! This person will be community-focused, skilled at managing people and bike repair, and moved to make bicycle transportation, recreation and mechanics accessible to people who have historically been excluded because of race, class, and/or gender. Based on qualifications, Seasonal Mechanics may also work shifts in the Alberta street DIY Bicycle Workshop. Those shifts will involve monitoring the appropriate use of tools, checking out the correct specialty tools for a variety of projects, enforcing safety and cleanliness guidelines, and answering questions and providing guidance to people using the workspace.Seasonally, shop staff will need to provide retail support at pop-ups and events. Programs Mechanic Coordinator

This role also provides limited instructional support focused on the repair and maintenance of commuter bicycles.
